Italian Tutorial The word “Ciao!” derives from the Venetian dialect “s’ciào“, which means “slave” . When greeting someone, we say hello, we mean “your servant” or “I am your slave, I am at your service.”


   La parolaCiao!”  deriva dal dialetto veneto “s’ciào” che significa “schiavo“. Quando, salutando qualcuno, diciamo “ciao” intendiamo dire: “servo vostro” ovvero “sono vostro schiavo; sono al vostro servizio“.
